Founded as a mining town during the California Gold Rush, Twain Harte was named after two famous authors, Mark Twain and Brete Harte. Today this quaint town is a popular year-round vacation destination, and has around 2,000 full time residents.
Downtown Twain Harte is home to one of our families favorite things, an 18 hole miniature golf course! Play a round of golf in the tall pines and then make sure to stop at Mainland Shave Ice, the Twain Harte Creamery, or the Haps Boba Tea & Bites for a refreshing treat. The Twain Harte Creamery also offers hatchet throwing.
If you are looking for something to eat, local restaurants include; the Local Press, The Rock, Eproson House, The Sporstman's Coffee Shop, El Jardin, and The Villa. Just a short drive away you will find The Twain Harte Golf Club Bar & Grill and the Pizza Factory. Twain Harte Market has a wide range of specialty foods & wines, as well as a full deli & butcher counter, and wide range of produce. We love to stop and at the market to pick up a made to order sandwich as we head to Pinecrest Lake for the afternoon.
Eproson Park has a large playground for children, and Twain Harte Meadows Park has covered bocce ball courts. The Meadows park is a 2.6 million dollar grant project that will eventually include a water play area, educational science labs, picnic area, and a community Christmas Tree. Twain Harte also has a community pool, tennis courts, and a golf course. During the summer Twain Harte hosts "Concert in the Pines" featuring different musical artists each week. Additionally, many local eateries also host weekly musical guests throughout the year.
While downtown, make sure to stop in and check out a few of the local shops such as, The Harte of the Kitchen, Earthy Essentials, The Walk in Closet, All that Matters, and the Clever Crow. They offer warm customer service and always have new items that make great keepsakes or gifts. Each of these local businesses offers something unique!
